Polestar traces its roots back to a Swedish racing team, but it’s been associated with Volvo from the beginning. Polestar has served as the in-house tuner for Volvo, as AMG does for Mercedes. In the late 2010s, Volvo announced that Polestar would become its own brand, focused on electric cars. It began producing models in 2020, starting with the limited-edition Polestar 1. The Polestar 2 followed, and future models will follow that numbering scheme.
